If you don’t know much about parquetry except in relation to flooring, well, you’re in for a treat. Parquetry is the technique of applying wood to make decorative or geometrical patterns on things, so while you might have seen it all over the place as far as floors, maybe seeing it applied to a modern cabinet deserves a second glance. This cabinet utilizes the traditional techniques of parquetry on furniture, and, as Leif.designpark states, “is an attempt at producing furniture using effectively materials and skills established in the Japanese culture.” Sounds good to me.

Modular systems can offer much needed versatility to your home, and this system does so with a distinct mid century flair. A half drawer unit plus half seat (not shown) would be ultra handy in a entryway, and the look of the two-2 drawer units on a double base (shown at top) could look very nice as a bedroom dresser or console. The only drawback is it can get a bit pricey when you start adding up the costs.
White or Ebony.
Single base (26″ wide x 17″ deep x 9″ high): $195.00
Double base (59″ wide x 17″ deep x 9″ high): $395.00
2 Drawer Unit (32.5″ wide x 17″ deep x 15.5″ high): $800.00
Tray unit: $150.00
Tray Seat Cushion: $195.00

Customizable storage systems aren’t really a new thing, but Loadbearing’s MShelving does have a certain appeal with its industrial frame with pick-your-own door color options. With somewhat reasonable price points, it could fit your storage needs quite well.
MShelving… allows you to create your own look from a wide range of interchangeable colored steel and wood veneer sliding doors and half- and full- height drawers. MShelving was designed by Mathias Frei of Zürich, and is produced in Switzerland and Italy. It combines a sturdy, fairly industrial-feeling steel shelving system base with a refined, simple and attractive sliding door system… The shelving unit itself is made of galvanized steel. The wood finish doors are wood veneers (all from sustainable forests) on a particle board base with a galvanized steel handle edge, and the color and metallic finish doors are made of powder-coated steel.
Colors: Wooden Veneers, 21 Colors, Metal Finishes
Note: Keep in mind the prices shown below are for the units only, the price will increase depending upon how many doors you want and what wood or color option you choose.

What a sight for sore eyes. This could be the ultimate building block of your dining or living room. With such austerity in a storage piece, you could go all kinds of crazy with rugs, lighting, artwork, you name it.
Oak Ligna by Ethnicraft is a fantastic new introduction to their assortment. Stainless steel and solid oak are combined for a modern and timeless look. Made of solid wood using classical furniture making techniques, these pieces are naturally durable and stain resistant.

Hmm, sawhorse legs on a storage console…good or bad? I’m leaning towards good, but I’d like it a little more if there were other leg options to choose from.
Our pared down take on the classic sawhorse is used as a leg for this cabinet. Shown in white oak with ebonized doors in a surprising, chiseled finish. Touch latch door closure.

Interchangeable legs and a drop-dead blue color qualifies this cabinet for my wish list…unfortunately, the price makes it go into the ‘if-I-win-the-lottery’ subcategory.
Interchangeable legs support this Showtime Cabinet as it expresses dichotomy and symbiosis. Things internal and external play out in organic forms and established classicism, resting against each other, elegantly coexisting. Noticeable inspiration comes from classical MGM musicals in terms of the dramatic and personified shapes for which the Spanish designer seems to have a penchant.

This retail site is actually pretty neat; you’re able to pick a frame and then customize it to your specifications. You can pick what size, legs, fabric, and filling you want, which means you decide how much you spend. Prices listed below are the starting price, so just for example, if you pick the Mota 84″ (shown in cream above), once you add Polyurethane Foam for the filling (+$246), Polyester Fiber for back pillows (+$124), fabric (at least +$180), and legs (as shown +$96), the price comes to about $1541, so keep that in mind. They also have some decent rugs and occasional tables.
Viesso offers an easy way to customize our products on this interactive website: select the model, the layout, and the appropriate size for your space. Next, choose from a large variety of Green options for fabric, finishes, legs, filling and more to create your own unique piece. You can price and purchase online, and we’ll build your order in Los Angeles to ship nationwide.

Man, if the economy didn’t suck right now, some of us could probably afford this. The plaid cork graphic on this sideboard is such a great detail.
Iannone Design’s new sideboard uses a variety of cork textures and colors to create a warm toned plaid graphic. The cabinet has touch release doors and a hand applied non toxic oil finish.
