Terrazzo Square Table and Stools

I know it’s not exactly outdoor weather for most people, but who says you can’t get ready early? This set would look equally good inside as well…

“This black terrazzo table is a classic addition to any patio or deck. Measuring 32″ square, you can easily match it to Napa’s square terrazzo stools (sold separately) or with your choice of teak or metal outdoor chair. Constructed from concrete with terrazzo accents, these innovative items may be left outside in Virginia winters (unlike terracotta, which is guaranteed to crack). Whether you prefer the look outdoors or in, this table is an undeniable classic.”

Table (32w x 32d x 30h), $559.00

Stool (12.5w x 12.5d x 18h), $125.00

lowseat by patricia urquiola

I just really love everything that patricia urquiola does. The Lowseat is a steel frame covered with injected flame-retardant polyurethane foam and the feet are made of stainless steel.

The best thing is that the covers are removable for cleaning (except for the leather, obviously).

Toto Cube Lamp

Not sure how long this will be on sale, so if you’re thinking it might work, you might want to snap it up while you can save some cash.

Whether placed bedside to provide a soft glow, used to dine on or used in a retail setting to display small objects, the Toto Cube Lamp (1996) functions dually as a lamp and a safe, washable table surface. The large-scale, unadorned geometry of the durable polypropylene diffuser lends function and visual impact to any setting, while being sturdy enough to act as an occasional stool as well. Boris Dining Table

Round dining tables are ideal for so many reasons. They keep everyone on the same social playing field by eliminating the head and foot, and conversation is much easier. I particularly loved this table when I saw it, a nicely beveled edge helps define the top from the interesting base.

“The Boris Dining Table is both nostalgic and state-of-the-art. Its sentimental design pays homage to the definitive production standards and style of Charles and Ray Eames. But Boris’s unconventionally shaped legs give it a form that lies in a dimension somewhere between minimalistic and space-age, making it a great addition to any modern dining area, but a true centerpiece in any retro-inspired environment.”

Luisa Side Table

This is a delightful little side table who’s inspiration came from a visit to grandma’s house. The table is constructed of two layers of hard acrylic with a thin layer of laser cut felt between.

“The inspiration for this design emerged during lunch at the home of Enrico Fratesi’s grandmother, Luisa. For Fratesi, the fact his grandmother’s furniture was covered in plastic was no surprise, since this method of keeping furniture clean was a practice he’d seen all his life. But for his partner, Stine Gam-Pedersen, a native of Denmark, the plastic covers were odd, unexpected and exactly the inspiration needed for their next design.”

Luisa can be used in multiples to create a coffee table, in either three of the same color or a mix.

Barbarella Sofa

I collect vintage interior design/decorating books, and a particular favorite I found at a university library sale: Bloomingdale’s Book of Home Decorating, published in 1972. The first picture you see as you flip through its sepia tinged pages is of a sunken living room, resembling a cave, with white fur covering almost every surface, from the floor to the walls to the ceiling. It’s so far over-the-top that I love it, that is what was so fun about decorating in the Seventies!

Imagine my surprise as I was shopping around this morning to find this amazing sofa from cheeky design firm Moooi. If you happen to have a sunken living room, I highly suggest you purchase this sofa in conjunction with several yards of faux fur to complete this designer look. The link below provides some inforamtion with more to come.
