Disposable Lighting by Stuart Haygarth

Disposable Lighting by Stuart Haygarth | View it here

I hoped you saved those plastic wine and champagne glasses from your holiday celebrations…Stuart Haygarth might need them to create his next masterpiece after his limited-edition light fixtures are all sold out.  Katie posted his work a while back, but this particular floor light stood out to me. Standing at approximately 80 inches tall and made of 416 disposable wine glasses, you could say this piece is a tall toast to a properous new year.

Plastic, fluorescent bulb
200cm x 50cm

Brave New World Lamp

Brave New World Lamp -- £ 3,696.00

This baby is crazy big. Standing at about 6-feet tall, this Anglepoise-ish lamp uses a combination of oak and cast iron balancing weights to function. It’s quite a sight to see in person, even if it is a bit beyond most of our budgets.

The Brave New World Lamp started as a concept piece of random thought-initiated construction. Following the example of old Far Eastern bamboo scaffolding the Brave New World Lamp was developed without a design or plan in place however each piece of wood is carefully notched and pegged together to form an integral part of the overall mechanical structure. The limitations of using small pieces of wood to create a large form allowed the design process to be as responsive as possible. Much like a sculptures’ relationship to their material.

Design Freshwest, 2009.
Oak frame, cast iron.
Made in The Netherlands by Moooi.
70.8″ h | 27.5″ w | cord; 118″ L

Brave new world is available in natural oak & requires 1xE27, 20W max lightbulb.

Whoa. Though these are terribly expensive, they’re also completely spectacular. Part lighting and part sculpture, either of these lights are sure to become a treasured piece in your collection. I don’t mean ‘your collection’ in the home-is-a-museum sort of way, just that if you spend the money on one of these lights, you should love it enough to keep it forever.

Happy Lamp by VaughShannon

Happy Lamp by VaughShannon -- € 550.00

Ah, yes, the forever issue of finding/reaching the switch for the table/floor lamp. This lamp solves that nicely with a convenient switch located at just the right height, no stretching or bending necessary. Plus, the jolt of color might be a great accent for an otherwise bland color scheme.

The Happy Lamp has been designed to offer a more convenient and ergonomic location for the lighting controls. The final design, which was led purely by function, takes on an anthropomorphic form, which in turn creates his charming personality.

Available direct from VaughShannon.

Holy. Someone needs to make this in porcelain so the price can be a bit more approachable, but man, for those of us that like the traditional button tufting found in the ubiquitous Chesterfield sofas, it’s a lovely sight to behold. (Dare I say this light is even ‘cute’?)

Chester designed by Bert furthermore Dennis for Belgian Dark is available as pendant and floor lamp, and refers to the famous Chesterfield furniture.
Designed for modern environments such as bars or lounges or why not at home next to chesterfield sofa.

Rodger Stevens Scaffolding Floor Lamp, Table Lamp

Rodger Stevens Scaffolding Floor Lamp, Table Lamp -- $ 695.00| Buy it here

How absolutely wonderful are these lamps by Rodger Stevens? I’ll tell you how wonderful they are: they’re the sort of lamps you’d buy without thinking about how you can’t afford them because they are freaking amazing, that’s how.

This floor lamp puts reclaimed exotic woods to beautiful new use. Artist and designer Rodger Stevens handpicked wood cast-offs from a multitude of sources, from demolition projects to piano manufacturers, to make these CFL-compatible usable sculptures. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Stevens’s work has been exhibited in galleries and museums from California to Paris since 1993. Both this floor lamp and accompanying table lamp are made in New York.

Cord Lamp by Design House Stockholm (personal review)

Cord Lamp by Design House Stockholm (personal review) -- $ 169.00| Buy it here

Yes, this has been posted before, but I recently bought one for myself, so I had to share a pic of it in my home (shown right, and a couple of extra pics here). I’m quite pleased with the useful dimmer switch, and of course there’s no worries as to the messy cord situation. It has my two thumbs up along with a personal stamp of approval.

From a snake nest of winding cords, this lamp shoots straight up and stands tall on its own. Surprising the eye by challenging the unexpected, the Cord Light is simple, yet characteristic. The cord, one of the most disturbing decorating details has been made useful. The piece is made out of a standard bulb, textile cord and steel tube.

Textile cord, H 130 cm (51.2″) Bulb included (GLOBE opal 40 W.)

$169.00, Buy it here.
