Kris posted the JUXTAPOSED: Religion from Mike and Maaike back in October of ‘07, and I can honestly say I’ve never stopped wanting it. And now, as if to torture us further, they’ve created a second series focused on “seven of the world’s most seminal texts on power” which is offered in a numbered, limited edition of 50.

“2,451 pages 2,390 years 2,251 wars 432 revolutions 90 empires 7 books 1 shelf.”

Little Paper Planes

Little Paper Planes -- $ 20.00| Buy it here

It’s never too late to start an art collection, and don’t you dare say you can’t afford it because there’s several sites out there that will prove you wrong. Maybe you can’t afford big-city-major-gallery-brand-name art (goodness knows most of us can’t), but there’s quite a bit of ‘budget’ art that runs around $20-$100 for smaller prints. I personally got lost on Little Paper Planes* the other day, and ended up buying three small prints for under $100, which is not bad at all. So, if you’ve got some blank walls begging for a lil’ bit of art, check it out.

shown above, left to right:

Sweet Like Harmony Print by Kelly Allen, $65.00
Christie Print by Alika Cooper, $50.00
Helen Ireland Print by Erin Gilkes, $20.00
Julia Rothman Letterpress Print by Julia Rothman, $25.00
Universe Kite Print by Brandi Strickland, $30.00

*and no, they didn’t pay us to plug their site, just in case you were feeling skeptical.

I love, love, love these custom nesting dolls by Hally McGehean. There’s fashion mag pics and vintage photography to choose from, or whatever else if you go the custom route. You can even get a little racy with photos of yourself (in various undress) if you’ve the guts. Love it.

JeffreyJamesModern terrariums

JeffreyJamesModern terrariums -- $ 300.00| Buy it here

Jeffrey, of JeffreyJamesModern, commented upon the cost prohibitive Ladyslipper Terrarium last week in order to draw attention to his own more affordable line. And what do you know, compared to $9,500.00, the price of $350 seems downright dirt cheap. I’d snap of them up right away if I lived in the US and if I could keep plants alive. There’s also a “You Choose, I Create” terrarium option, where you can choose everything “from the size and shape of the terrarium to a myriad of materials, colors and plants inside”.

I hope to provide the truest representation of nature using the Taoist principles of proportion and scale… taking into consideration the shape, texture and size of plants against the earth and the sky… staying true to elements that one would find in nature. These natural miniature landscapes are enhanced within complementary containers. -JeffreyJamesModern

FOOD Print by beauchamping

FOOD Print by beauchamping -- $ 75.00| Buy it here

If you look closely at the top print, you can see the animals’ shadows make a sentence. I’d seen the ‘STATES UNITED’ print (bottom right) before somewhere, but looking at the whole collection of prints makes me appreciate each individual one even more.

*All prints are created using a xylene transfer process*. It’s like a screenprint, but without the screen, and the artwork is hand-transferred inch by inch over a long hour. Each xylene print is an original, slightly different from the last, all signed and numbered.

FOOD (2009), 30 × 22 inches, $75.00
ALPHABET (2009), 30 x 22 inches, $75.00
STATES UNITED (2009), 22 x 30 inches, $75.00

Art History Print by Vuk Vidor

Art History Print by Vuk Vidor -- $ 450.00| Buy it here

Think of this print as an expensive cheat sheet.

The prize for the best art history goes without doubt to Vuk Vidor, an artist from Belgrade working in Paris. His mural called ‘Art History’ is a list; on each line he links an artist to his/her cultural impact in three words. He is so efficient that he tackles over 30 in his piece. So for example he writes “Mondrian owns Geometry”, “Pollock owns Drippings”, “Warhol owns Pop”, “Botero owns Fat” and “Munch owns Despair”.

Art history (part one – version C)
Medium silkscreen
Size 41.4 x 29.3 in. / 105.2 x 74.3 cm. Year 2004 – 2009 Edition 200
Misc. Signed

Mini Forest of Woods -- $ 200.00| Buy it here

This incredibly charming and handcrafted set of trees is currently sold out at the moment, but I couldn’t resist sharing them with you.

The Mini Forest of Woods is a nine piece set of various types of scrap wood turned into a forest. Every set is unique as each piece is turned from a different piece of scrap wood. The Mini Forest of Woods is a limited edition of 5 sets. Tallest tree is 7″.

Given that these are limited to editions of 5, I would definitely get in touch with the designer if you are interested in purchasing a set.

If you have any ounce of craft talent whatsoever, this could be an excellent keepsake to create for your nearest and dearest. Whatever the sentiments, it’s sure to make a much longer impression than any piece of paper.

what will you write? a grocery list? a thank you letter? a marriage proposal? or maybe you’ll draw something? organic cotton fabric ‘notebook paper’ is printed with classic blue lines and a red rule, complete with (button) holes at left margin. comes with a skein of pencil-colored embroidery floss. we suggest separating the thread into thinner strands for added authenticity.
