FURNISHINGS

Vienna Side Chair

It’s pretty amazing that Thonet’s first bentwood chair was designed in 1859, especially considering how popular it still is. Plus, this particular chair is very affordable at $120, and you can rest easy knowing it’s produced in one of the original Thonet bentwood chair factories.

Dazzle Chair

Oh, dear Bertjan Pot, how he never ceases to amaze and wonder. The Random Light, the Carbon Chair, the Lazy Bastard. So much goodness. And now the Dazzle stacking chair, apparently named in reference to the Dazzle painting used on ships extensively during World War I.

Paperweight Desk

Made entirely of 100% recyclable cardboard, this white gloss desk knocks the socks off of practically every other desk out there. At ยฃ151.00 (~$225), it’s super affordable, has a cable management system (very important) and can be assembled in a few minutes. If you move around a lot, the assembly/disassembly of furniture should not be taken lightly, nor should you miss the fact that this desk is super light and super strong. Now, if only a US retailer would pick it up, I’m sure exclamations of joy would be heard throughout the 50 states.

Tavares Chair, White

Just yesterday I updated the post of this chair from last year, as the price had increased from just under $700.00 to $1,459.00. Now, I’ve no idea how MoMA has the price of $825.00, but it’s a heck of a lot cheaper than $1,500.00. Plus, knowing that it can go outdoors as well is all the more reason to snap it up.

Soorikian Long Console

Finding a modern media stand is no easy task. I know this personally, of course, and am quite familiar with the many requirements needed to house those precious electronic boxes that magic images up on the tv screen. Dimensions, ventilation, wire management, and above all, how it looks… all these things are important. So, that’s why this console caught my eye. It’s certainly easy on the eyes, with a lovely walnut finish and a low profile, with slats to allow for ventilation (and visual interest). The compartments can be fitted with a drawer or a space specifically for electronics.

Walnut finish.

Marble Coffee Table (match off)

At first glance, these two pictures might appear to be of the same table taken in different lighting, but perhaps the more discerning can pick out a few tiny details that sets one apart from the other. There’s not much, mind you, but there is a difference, most noticeably in the price.

Can you guess which one is $900 and which is $300?

Answer and info on both below.

Cork Media Console

We’ve been fans of Iannone Design for quite some time now, so it’s no surprise that this low storage unit would eventually have its turn in the spotlight. Just under 2 feet, it’s low enough to fit a good sized flat screen above or on it without sacrificing a reasonable viewing height, and the cork doors and plywood core edges add just the right amount of natural elements to balance out the tech.

Two compartments (each with an adjustable shelf) and wire/vent holes in the maple back.

Clarity Color Glass Tables

This looks like something straight out of Verner Panton’s portfolio, doesn’t it? Pink, orange, and yellow glass is combined to form these colorful ‘color-wheel’ tables. Now, if only they made this in a lucite-ish version at, let’s say, a fifth of the cost, then maybe it’d fit nicer into all of our budgets.
