Master Kit #5575

If your toolbox is a mess, with missing hex bits and no Phillips Head to be found, you could probably use a complete tool overhaul. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you are either very lucky, very rich, or have your home falling apart. In any case, this Master Kit has pretty much everything you need should you need a basic tool set, all in a securely latching box.

Trusco Deluxe Tool Box

Who wants a big, blue tool box designed smack dab (or close enough) in the middle of the 20th century? I certainly do. Talk about a robust sort of toolbox, the Trusco Deluxe is made from stamped-steel with a bold blue enameled finish. That beats the pants off any plastic toolbox you’re bound to find at any hardware store. Open it in one smooth motion to find several spots for organizing your tools and/or art supplies; the dividers are removable so adjust them to fit your needs.

Credit Card Multi Tool

Do you need a Credit Card Multi Tool thingamajig? That answer is probably ‘heck, yeah’ if your bag or pocket is missing a bottle opener, package opener, screwdriver, can opener, ruler, wrench, butterfly screw wrench, auxiliary wrench, and/or a direction indicator, and this little tool has all of those with a key chain hole, of course. You won’t think you need any one of those things until you do, at which point you’ll be mumbling profanities at the fact that you didn’t spend $12 for this thin, stainless steel sheet.

Sugru Fix-It-All Kit

Hooray! Sugru is now available at MoMA, and that means more people can fix and modify all sorts of things with this magic stuff. Sugru, if you’re not familiar with it already (Simon wrote about it back in 2010), is a self-setting rubber that you can mold like play-dough. It bonds to almost everything and sets into a flexible, water-proof silicone rubber overnight. Use it to make tools easier to grip, mend broken wires, put bumpers on your phone, and more. You may also buy the kit directly from Sugru ($22), fyi.

Ollie

I know you don’t need yet another thing to put in your wallet, but what if this extra thing could fit all sorts of handy tools like a bottle opener, ruler, spoke wrench, protractor, metric and standard ruler, metric wrenches, drill guides, and a 1/8″ hex drive, all in one slender credit-card-like shape? Maybe then you’d find some room? Laser cut and etched from 18 gauge stainless steel or titanium, the Ollie arms you with the tools to do all sorts of everyday odd jobs. Back the project for $25 for the stainless steel version, or $35 for the titanium.

The MULTI Tool/Wallet

Just look at all the tools that this thin, minimal wallet has integrated into its surface: bottle opener, nested wrench, ruler, bit holder, box opener, and even a smartphone/tablet stand. If you don’t mind the metal aspect for the wallet function, you could have all these tools sandwiching your cash and cards, at the ready for whenever you might need them. Sure, it’s a little clunky, but it is metal, after all. See video below for more.

Multi-Tool

Now, don’t get too excited, this isn’t the sort of thing you’d carry around in your pocket. It’s a bit big for that, unless you’ve huge pockets, and it’s probably more suited for your bag than carrying it around in its nylon carrying case on your belt loop (or maybe you can pull that look off, who knows). The Multi-Tool has “a hammer, adjustable wrench, pliers, wire cutter, file, blades, and a screwdriver with a twelve-piece bit set concealed in the handle.” If that’s not enough for you, I don’t know what is.

Maybe some of you camping pros can say whether this is THE ultimate survival tool or just something that’d be handy to have when trekking in the wilderness. With 10 functions packed into one smallish tool, I’d hazard a guess it’s better than nothing.

Champagne Toolbox

There’s a saying in Texas, (actually, it’s more of a lame bumper sticker) that goes something like this: “Yes, this is my truck and no I won’t help you move.” I agree with the sentiment. Avoid helping anyone move by getting them this great Champagne Toolbox.
