ET HOP Hors D’Oeuvre Tray

While this might be a little above your budget, it does look entirely handy for hors d’oeuvres for a small get together or party. A wood carrying rack allows for 5 bowls of different heights to be carried together, and when you place the bowls and rack down, the bowls sit on the table and reveal their topography. See video below.

Dino Salad Servers

If getting greens into your family’s diet is hard work, maybe these two Dino Servers will help make the salad bowl a little more friendly, and even a little fun. And, if these two cute little smiles aren’t successful in increasing the vegetable intake at your table, at least they’ll cheer you up whenever you pull them out of the drawer.

Table Bin

As nice weather has hopefully reached your town/city by now, it’s time to think about moving meals outside in the sunshine. This Table Bin by Royal VKB makes setting and clearing the table easier- dishes are stacked neatly on the anti-slip lid while cutlery has its own spot on the side. When the meal is done, leftovers can be deposited in the bin, dirty dishes can be stacked back on top, and cutlery goes back in its spot on the side, all ready for easy dishwasher loading.

Certamente Salad Servers

Update: Remember these? Originally posted mid 2010, these salad servers are still available, they just needed an update to the current retailer and price.

How often do you swoon over salad servers? Well, assign Konstantin Grcic the task of designing kitchen and table utensils and suddenly we’re all hearing our hearts thump. These are part of the Passami il Sale collection from Konstantin Grcic and Serafino Zani.

Glass Beverage Dispenser

Instead of refilling your guests’ glasses every five seconds, add this dispenser to your spring/summer soiree and sit back and enjoy yourself. The handmade glass beaker holds seven quarts of your favorite drink and is topped off with a natural cork cap. (Do note that the spigot is unfortunately silver-tone plated plastic- but I suppose that’s what you get for $50).

Salad Servers

Salad servers are one of those things that get overlooked, unless you did (or are doing) the whole gift registry thing for your wedding/celebration/housewarming/etc. Personally, I don’t think I’ve ever owned a specific pair of salad servers (the shame!) and running across these three options, I might just decide to remedy the situation. See below for details on each set.

45° Butter Case

A butter dish isn’t much to write home about, nor is your budget likely to allow $85 for one, but let’s just focus a second on the details. This is made from wood, so it’s a friendlier receptacle that doesn’t clink or clang as porcelain does, and it would be a bit warmer to the touch if you keep your butter in the fridge. Plus, it has its own knife which allows you to scrape every bit of the case clean and is meant to be stored alongside so you’re not without a utensil. Sometimes the smallest of details add pleasure to a rather normal daily routine.

Silhouette Platter and Plates

We’ve featured Christopher Jagmin’s Even and Odd Dinner Plates, but these silhouette pieces are worth a look as well. The platter would look just at home on a wall as on your table, and the small plates would be a nice size for salads or sandwiches.

TIPSY Serving Tray

For those of us that are a bit clumsy (or lazy), this tray would be a dream. Filled glasses and dishes keep their place even if you swing the tray, allowing you to move from kitchen to dining table to outdoors in a breeze. The loop at the top of the straps means you can carry even more in one hand if necessary.

Nylon handles are removable from the aluminum tray.

Union Wood Co. Serving Tray

I’m such a sucker for reclaimed wood. These serving trays by Union Wood Co. are built from old growth fir boards from a recently renovated RCMP Livery stable in Vancouver. Each tray is unique (though they all have brass handles and rubber feet on the bottom).

Made in Canada
Measures approximately 12 x 12 x 2 in/30 x 30 x 5 cm

MexICON Platters

Carlos Slim? Verónica Castro? Maybe you’re familiar with these names, maybe not. But these MexICON Platters from the design studio DFC sure steal my heart quicker than any Fornasetti piece I’ve seen. Originally DFC founders Tony Moxham and Mauricio Paniagua conceived this series as homage to Fornasetti, and used famous Mexican pop icons in place of Fornasetti’s ubiquitous choice. The group includes faces of poet Pita Amor, telecommunications magnate Carlos Slim, eyepatch-wearing ’70s soap star Catalina Creeland, architect Luis Barragán, and actors Andrés García and Verónica Castro. I’d say any one of them is a safe bet for jazzing up your tabletop.

Totem

What appears at first as a vase is actually a stack of 4 unique bowls. Could be a handy thing to have for serving or storing snacks/food, or maybe even on your desk as a receptacle for office supplies. Totem is made by hand, so keep in mind that each one is “perfectly imperfect.”
