If I were one to celebrate Valentine’s Day, I would give one of these cutting boards from the Blackline Collection to my love. Why? Because they’re black, like my heart. Just kidding. Stainless steel mirrors are a smart purchase- you’d have to try hard to break them, of course, and they could also possibly double as a weapon. Those two things aside, this Easy Mirror designed by Jamie Wolfond is also really convenient for the glamorous sort of vagabond. Simply press the leg outward to make it stand vertical, then press it back flat when it’s time to pack it away.

Thank goodness, there’s a self-watering planter that hides the fact that you suck at taking care of your plants. It’s ceramic, so that in itself helps make it look nicer, and has two parts to reduce your watering chores. If you have a fireplace (lucky you), you’d best have a decent set of fire tools to keep the flames under control. This set by Arik Levy includes tongs, shovel, brush, and a bucket with the word ‘fire’ on its side just in case anyone gets confused. Does anyone else feel like it’s hard to find the right sort of accent pillow? You don’t want anything too wacky, and sometimes a solid block of color seems too safe (and a little boring). Perhaps some might sort these Fragment Cushions from Ferm Living into the wacky pile, but I think they’re fun, and have a bolder color scheme that would inject a good bit of pattern into an otherwise ho-hum room.

If you’re going to have a chimney, it might as well be a geometric, prism-like one. Raw, hand-welded steel will develop a patina (that’s a nice word for rust, by the way) over time and the chimney is removable for cleaning.

There’s nothing complicated about the Dot Light from Lambert & Fils; it’s just a handmade brass disc with plenty of nylon wire to hardwire it onto a wall (or specify a rocker switch and plug). However, the size of the circular base makes the warm reflection of the bulb more visible and entirely more elegant (in a subtle Hollywood glamour sort of way).
