Task Lighting

Wastberg Collection

Though my personal favorite remains the Studioilse lamp, the whole Wastberg Collection is incredibly impressive. (Also, with only a few days left of DWR’s sale (15% off is valid through March 18, 2009), it’s decision time if you’re considering any purchases.)

Pablo Link Task Lamp

This lamp is an excellent choice for task lighting; 18 high-power LEDs make it brighter than other LED desk lamps and at full power it consumes only 9W (97% less energy than a task lamp using a comparable incandescent light bulb). Plus, it’s got a smart L-shaped base so it can stay at the corner of your desk without interfering with your workspace.

Designed for easy disassembly of minimal component parts enables reclamation and recycling, Link is an efficient, sustainable, cradle-to-cradle design. As in many of Stathis’ designs, great attention was placed on efficiency, both in conceptualizing the design as well as in its material realization. By utilizing the minimum number of component parts (all purposed for more than one function), and reducing their overall mass to only that which is deemed essential, a behind-the-scenes goal of hyper-efficient manufacturing and best environmental stewardship is achieved.

Designer: Peter Stathis
Height: 33″ (max) x 9.5″ W x 9.5″ D

Ninety Task Light

Sure, not everyone’s going to plunk down $500 for a lamp, but it is an excellent, excellent design. If you have it for the next thirty years, you could say it’s worth the $1.38 per month that it averages out to be, but then, I guess you could use that formula to justify buying anything expensive.
