Food Huggers

Don’t worry, Food Huggers are not a group of people lecturing you about loving your food, they’re small silicone thingamajigs that help you save your fruits and vegetable from the trash or compost bin. The flexible inner edges of the Food Hugger seals in the juices so that your food won’t spoil or dehydrate as quickly as it would otherwise. How many times have you thrown away half an onion, tomato, cucumber, etc. because you didn’t use it in time? That will become a thing of the past with these little brilliant things. 4 different sizes fit all sorts of fruits and veggies, and they nest together in a drawer for storage.

This Ice Box by Lékué will certainly come in handy, as the silicone ice cube tray doubles as the lid, which allows you to make and store up to 132 ice cubes. (Fun fact: that pattern you see in the tray is a Voronoi diagram, fyi.)

Rinse Bowl & Strainer

A rinsing bowl that has a strainer is different from just a strainer, right? Right. This bowl has a strainer ‘side’ that folds out to catch your pasta/fruit/veggies, so you can rinse and then strain out the water all in one bowl. Sort of smart, isn’t it? Also available in red and green/avocado.

Teroforma Bread & Butter Boards

If you’re serious about your bread and various spreads, take a look at the Teroforma boards. One is longer, for baguettes and such, the other shorter for regular loaves. A removable soapstone bowl nests into an opening which then serves as a hook or handle for storage or carrying. One side of the board has a sloped ‘well’ that will corral all manner of crackers.

The Food Guide Tea Towel

Update: Now available stateside! Hoorah!

Which foods are rich in vitamins and minerals? If you’re not sure, then perhaps this tea towel would be a good reference to have on hand in the kitchen. It might even encourage you to eat a little healthier (fingers crossed). There’s also a The Food Guide Poster if you’d rather see the info on the wall.

Chef’n SleekStor Collapsible Colander

When it comes to rinsing a handful of berries, grapes, or other small fruits/veggies, a large colander is a little too big, and my hands are always a little too small, as proved by the inevitable escape of three or four renegade berries/grapes. While one could choose to rinse smaller portions, I’m instead thinking a smaller colander will corral foodstuffs appropriately and make the rinsing ritual a little easier. My bet is on this smaller, collapsible colander from Chef’n.

Math Dishtowel, Mug, Pencil Case

For your favorite mathematician (a.k.a. mathemagician), how about a dishtowel, pencil case, or mug? Or all three? Chalk white lines on a black backgroung evoke memories from past math classes, and no matter if you liked/loved/hated them, you (or someone you know) can still enjoy a little math imagery with appreciation.

Chopula

That’s Count Chopula* to you. This spatula allows you to keep your hand away from the heat while chopping food in a hot pan. The flexible, flat head slides easily under food for fast flips and a clever bend in the handle keeps it off countertops to reduce mess (and food contamination, if you’re going to get specific).

Kitchen Grip

Hmm, this is a rather hi-tech oven mitt, isn’t it? Made of pliable neoprene (FLXaPrene, to be exact), this mitt repels stains and bacteria buildup and the textured surface gives you a good, safe grip. What else do you want in an oven mitt? Maybe to throw it in the dishwasher when it needs cleaning? Done. Your wish is granted.

Kaico Enamel Milk Pan

Who in the world needs a specialized milk pan? Pfft, not me, that’s for sure, especially after trying to heat up milk for a matcha latte yesterday. Yes, I said matcha latte, and yes, I’m aware that it’s a very easy recipe, but I somehow made a mess of things, and now I’m thinking that my counters would not have been splattered with green milky tea if the pan I used was smaller and had had a useful spout. If heating up milk is anywhere in your daily/weekly/monthly/seasonal life, this pan would be a treat to have on hand. The Kaico series has an enamel coating over steel which makes each piece durable and thermal-efficient. Also available in the series is the Kaico Coffee Pot $130, Kaico Kettle $140, and the Kaico Pasta Pan $190.
