Table-top Paper holder with Cutter

If you’ve ever used large paper rolls, either for your own art/design use or because you are around kids, you know that they can be a little annoying to use. This tabletop wooden paper cutter holds the roll in place and allows for a neat, straight tear, making everyone’s life just a little easier. There’s also the IKEA MÅLA Tabletop paper holder option for $6.99, and, of course, more robust (and slightly more expensive) steel options available through school supply outlets or Amazon. Or, if you’re handy, you could make a DIY version like this one by Ana White.

Just the word ‘sconce‘ brings to mind older, more traditional interiors, but this lamp from Misewell definitely belongs to the more modern day home. With a mid-sized proportion, the lamp is a great choice for bedside or hallway, or even paired up on either side of a large mirror.

Stack-a-doodle Crayons

Lego-ish crayons? Of course! Why, that might just be the perfect prescription for getting those creative juices flowing again. Get a few packs and distribute around the office accordingly. Need I remark that these would be equally amusing to children? Maybe get a dozen packs instead, that way you’re prepared for any age group and all situations.

United States Chalkboard Map

Oh, the various situations where this map would be useful. One: to test your guest’s knowledge of states (Where is Arkansas!) and then get depressed at how little they know. Two: to mark the states you should never ever visit due to their political atmosphere. Three: to plan your escape should your family encounter imminent danger, though that would be foolish considering interstate highways aren’t drawn in. Four: to practice memorization of interstate highways so you know how to escape should your family encounter imminent danger. Etc. I’m sure you’ll think of many more.

Magisso Bamboo Cutting Board

This cutting board has a Z shape to provide two useful functions. The front ridge rests against the edge of the counter to keep the board from sliding forward. The back keeps your knife in place while cutting and may also be used to funnel your chopped veggies into a bowl or pan. And, if that’s not enough for you, that same Z shape allows the board to stand upright as well; that little detail should not to be underestimated if your kitchen lacks storage space. If you still refuse to get excited about a cutting board, there’s a video below for visual stimulation.

Fin Table Light

Goodness. Who knew the inner workings of a lamp could look as good as this? Nice job yet again, Mr. Dixon. An ode to engineering, the Fin Light exposes the components usually hidden from view. What you’d think was merely a design feature is its heat sink (which if you have no idea what that is, here’s a link to images of lamp heat sinks). That and the giant acrylic lens and 6 LEDs result in a design that is self-contained yet visually exposed.

Tea for One

Apologies if you’re not fond of tea, because I sure am (as you will know if you’re a regular reader). Bodum brings us the Tea for One, a glass and tea strainer combined. The plastic filter sits inside the double walled glass, allowing your leaves to brew without escaping into the cup. Simply lift out the filter once the desired strength is reached and place it upon the lid/saucer.

Flat Life Lamp and Clock

Another version of this Flat Life Lamp was available a couple of years ago (see 2010 post), but this Anglepoise-like image is a tad more sophisticated. Be sure to check out the Flat Life Clock (shown below) as well (how much do you wish it had an actual alarm function?).

mc&co Irregular Round Mirror

You see an irregular round mirror, which is sort of interesting, and then, as you step to the side, a punch of day-glow color from the recessed frame hits you in the face. That, my friend, raises the bar from sort-of-interesting to high-five-awesome. There’s a few different options in colored glass as well as frames; take a look at mc&co for the full collection.

Discolo Fire Pit

As summer begins to change into fall, a fire pit for warming chilly hands and feet could be in the cards. AK47 has quite a few snazzy options, but they are all towards the higher end of the price spectrum (be prepared to spend around $1500+). One that especially stands out is the Discolo Fire Pit, which has a diameter of almost 4 feet. The base (sold separately) isn’t necessary, but be sure to set up a safe surround of gravel, stone, or sand before making a fire. Better to be safe than sorry, right? There’s also a grill accessory and bag (each $766) sold separately.

Roll Up Picnic Blanket

Have you noticed that summer is almost over? If you don’t already own a picnic blanket, consider this one from fruitsuper design. It’s made from a double-sided, water-repellent fabric and has a shoulder strap with snaps to make rolling it up and carrying it around a breeze. There’s also the added bonus of wind-resistant corners (a small but nice detail). Might be a great choice for a backyard get together, park picnic, play dates, beach outing, etc.
