Magic Pillow

A magic pillow for where (you guessed it) the magic happens… or for just supporting your lower back while watching television on the sofa. Paula Coulthard has a collection of word gems written with ribbon on pillows, and while they’re not yet available through her webshop, you can find quite a few through Douglas + Bec. A couple of other pillows shown below.

Stainless Steel Spoon Straws

No need to wish upon a star for a fancy spoon straw, because here it is. Stir and sip your drink with the same utensil! Amazing, isn’t it? And I’m only partially being facetious, because it is actually a smart drink accessory.

Tally Notebooks

Let’s hope that your victories well outnumber any regrets or expectations, but nevertheless, you can now keep track with these 100% recycled notebooks. Keep in mind these notebooks are of a smaller size, so they’d be easy to carry around in a pocket or bag- better to keep your tally accurate, I suppose. Could be a nice small gift for a graduate, depending on your point of view (as in, don’t just get them the ‘regrets’ notebook, that’s just mean).

Hang Up by vuur

We’re all well past coats and scarves weather, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t update your entryway with a nice wall organizer. This one by vuur has plenty of hooks for hanging all manner of stuff as well as a shelf/ledge that corrals mail, wallets, mobile phones, etc. At 3″ deep, it’ll fit behind doors easily and you can combine several to make a bigger storage statement.

Kebo Bottle Opener

It’s safe to say that if you’re opening a bottle you should probably have both hands on board, but we’ll make one small exception for this bottle opener. Now your other hand can be free to wave at your friends, show off your other bicep or your amazing coordination skills (juggling?), or perhaps it’s more likely that you’ll get two of these so you’ll look like a cowboy bartender with his/her sixshooters. That’s my vote. Rush Dixon, the designer, was inspired by the Theodore Low bottle opener from the 1930s.

Core Bamboo Glass Honey Jar

This is for all the honey lovers out there. There’s a lot of ceramic honey jars out there, but it’s a little hard to find one that isn’t too Winnie the Pooh, if you know what I mean. This one from Core Bamboo has a handy lid/dipper to make for easy serving. When not in use, the lid keeps the jar sealed for freshness.

Patricia Urquiola Wire Baskets

Update: Two of these three wire baskets by Patricia Urquiola are now more than half off, which means you just might be able to afford one or two. Each basket is made from a single module of wire which is repeated 15 times and intertwined to create the shape. If you’d like some height, keep in mind that the Wire Centerpiece can be stacked on top of the Citrus Basket. Made in Italy.

Elkay Cutting Boards

Cutting boards with cutouts: a small alteration that helps guide food into/onto a prep bowl or plate. One of these boards might just fit your sink, but check to make sure your undermount has a minimum of 1/2″ reveal. Elkay has a whole range of sinks and accessories, so if neither of these fit your specifications, you might check out their other offerings.

Eva Solo’s Hurricane Lamp

Have you sorted out your outdoor lighting situation yet? If not, do consider this hurricane lamp from Eva Solo. Two small but important details: it has a silicone base to make removing any wax easy (simply bend the base) and a hole at the bottom to let in air to reduce sooting. Use the handle to suspend from trees or do without for a simpler look on tables and floors.

Triangle Notebook

Update: Remember this guy? MoMA has it in stock again, with a slight modification to its branding (now it says ‘MoMA Triangle Notebook’).

I’m not quite sure how a triangular shape notebook would benefit those of us that like notebooks, other than for novelty’s sake, but maybe that’s reason enough. (For example, I thought I’d skip posting this, but I kept coming back to it.) This notebook belongs to MoMA’s Destination: Istanbul, which means it’s available for a limited time only.

Features 144 ruled pages and a durable black fabric cover.
Made in Turkey
Size: 9l x 9w x .5″h.

Rockport and Scottsdale Croquet Set

Do you know just how many croquet sets are available online? Hundreds, to say the least. I’ve no idea which set is the best to steer you towards, but I do like the look of the ones from The North Meadow. The Rockport 4 Player Set is $124, while the Scottsdale 6 Player Croquet Set is $185. Not inexpensive, but if you’re looking something that will last, they’ll most likely be better than the cheaper options.

Recycled Moon, Thermometer and Time Clock

If you sell seashells by the seashore, you’d do well to have a clock that keeps track of the tide. This recycled (made from vending machine coffee cups) clock has temperature and time as well, so you’ll have all the information you need when you set out. Weather proof.

Cork Tray

It’s a cork tray. You might think it’s a little ho-hum/boring, but I’d wager a guess it would be entirely useful when it comes to shuttling things back and forth from the kitchen to table (or sofa, if that’s your preferred spot). Cork is renewable and recyclable, as you know, but the main function here is that it would keep your cups of tea/biscuits/etc. from sliding around and making a mess. However, if you should spill, no worries, as it can be wiped clean with a wet cloth.

Alarm Dock, Color

The Alarm dock by Jonas Damon is now available in all sorts of bright hues: blue, green, orange, pink, red, and yellow. Don’t worry, though, there’s still the original in beech wood ($40) as well as the black and white versions. You’ll have to be patient for the color options, as the approximate ship date is early July.
