Mineral Plate

Yep, it’s a plate with a strange sort of image- minerals, to be exact. Why would you need something such as this? You don’t, of course, but you might want a plate with weird mineral formation imagery just to appreciate/celebrate the strange and wondrous things found in nature, especially when the imagery has such nice color combinations. There’s little info available as to food safety, but I’d say any of these are more suited to catching keys and miscellany, just so you could see it each day instead of being tucked away in a cabinet.

Trapeze LED Table Light

Whoa, this lamp is something else. The rounded counterweights are distinctly sculptural, and the 3-axis range of motion means you’ll get an even warm light (thanks to the LEDs) wherever you need it. Aluminum spherical joints allow for fluid-yet-precise movement. On a personal note, my workspace lamp recently bit the dust and I opted to upgrade to the Trapeze- the movement of the arm is pretty fantastic. Wherever you move the head, it stays, which is exactly what is needed from a task light. Two thumbs up.

Loop Bottle Opener

Want a bottle opener that will last forever? Take stock of this stainless steel version. It’s got a rough tumbled finish that will take its fair share of abuse no matter how many bottles you open on a daily basis. The simplified form and industrial finish means no nonsense- no silly frilliness here, thank you very much.

Charlie vs. Medina

Next, we have a match-up between the charming Charlie rug and the multicolor Medina rug. One is a little more pinkish than the other, obviously, but they both have a similar look with their stacked block pattern. Can you guess which one is over $2 grand and which one is just under $500?

Hex Cutting Board

Shoot, I’m such a sucker for geometric anything. Simply facet the edges of an American Maple wood board and I’m already contemplating plonking down a credit card, no matter the many cutting boards already in my cabinets. Now, the faceted edges do make the board easier to pick up (on one side), so it’s actually a functional feature as well as a stylistic choice.

Felt35 Wall Clock

Made of felt, eh? Sounds nice, but what’s even nicer is that it’s made out of 60% recycled PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) felt. The PET felt helps with sound dampening and adds a soft texture to your time spot. Choose white, grey, or orange hands.

Chopula

That’s Count Chopula* to you. This spatula allows you to keep your hand away from the heat while chopping food in a hot pan. The flexible, flat head slides easily under food for fast flips and a clever bend in the handle keeps it off countertops to reduce mess (and food contamination, if you’re going to get specific).

Doll Lamp

Inspired by the shape of the traditional Japanese ‘Kokeshi Doll‘, this small lamp combines “feminine sensitivity and Foscarini’s technological design research capabilities.” Let’s also say that it’ll be your little lamp friend, shedding light on those dark, lonely nights. The blown glass ‘head’ emits a warm, diffused light while the plastic body allows for several color options. And, as the size comes in at just 8.5″ high and 6.5″ diameter, it can tuck into smaller spots quite well.

Giant Valentine’s Day Posters

It’s Valentine’s Day, whoop-do-doo, right? No time to get a gift if you’ve not done it already, and sorry, but a stuffed bear and flowers definitely do not count as a thoughtful gift. Now, a giant poster, on the other hand, that’s something to hang on the wall. And a cost of $5 and approximately 15-20 minutes to print it out at your local print shop? That’s a very small price to pay for the big smile you’ll get once that certain someone unrolls it. Download the images at Oh Happy Day.

MagContainer

Magnetic wooden boxes that fit together for storing all sorts of sundries? Yes, please. Too bad it seems like only one retailer stocks a few pieces stateside, but that’s better than nothing. Crafted by artisans from Tokushima, each box is created in shapes of 30-degree increments. The magnets are embedded within the sides, so you may combine them in random geometric stacks that’ll stay put until you decide to change things up.

Kitchen Grip

Hmm, this is a rather hi-tech oven mitt, isn’t it? Made of pliable neoprene (FLXaPrene, to be exact), this mitt repels stains and bacteria buildup and the textured surface gives you a good, safe grip. What else do you want in an oven mitt? Maybe to throw it in the dishwasher when it needs cleaning? Done. Your wish is granted.

Asahineko Table Broom & Dust Pan

Go ahead and scoff at the $140 price tag. It is a table broom and dust pan, after all. However, the next time you’ve swept crumbs off the table with your gross sponge or inept hands and scattered some of the mess on the floor and chairs, don’t come back here complaining that there’s nothing you can do about it.
