Loll’s Containers

So, with the nice weather here it might be time to add a few plants around your home. And, sure, your local plant nursery probably has plenty of decent pots and planters, but wouldn’t it be nice to have something a little better than decent? Perhaps something that hits the modern/minimal spot?

Take a look at Loll’s containers and tell me if they’re not better than these guys. Each planter is made from the recycled and recyclable poly material just like Loll’s furniture, and will withstand the test of time in whatever kind of weather. You’ll get slow drainage thanks to the joinery, or you can easily drill holes in the bottom if need be. A little assembly is required, as each piece is flat-packed for shipping.

Loop Tea Strainer

Another tea strainer. Aren’t you excited? I know how important it is to you, that perfect (elusive?) cup of tea, and Kinto has yet another option to consider. This stick-shaped tea strainer has a slidable side that allows you to scoop tea leaves directly without the use of a spoon. Slide the side back down to cover, and then place in your cup with hot water. The slidable part is easy to remove completely for cleaning.

Rinse Bowl & Strainer

A rinsing bowl that has a strainer is different from just a strainer, right? Right. This bowl has a strainer ‘side’ that folds out to catch your pasta/fruit/veggies, so you can rinse and then strain out the water all in one bowl. Sort of smart, isn’t it? Also available in red and green/avocado.

Abeego Food Storage

You recycle everything, you minimize car travel, you try very hard to buy local foods, so why the hell are you still using plastic bags for food storage? Maybe you could take one tiny extra step and get some reusable food storage already (duh).

The Abeego material is a hemp and cotton fabric infused with a blend of beeswax, tree resin and jojoba oil that keeps food fresh. What? Huh? How? Keep your pants on, and listen. When at room temperature, the cloth is slightly adhesive and malleable, and when it’s cool, it stiffens and holds the form you create. The natural coating is fluid and air resistant, and you just hand-wash in cold water to clean. There are a couple of drawbacks, though: no dishwasher or microwave use, and you might be accused of being a hippie. (Kidding about the last bit, of course.)

Quattro LED Task Lamp

Degree, Quattro, what are we here, a drugstore? Despite that bad imagery, turn your eyes toward the new Quattro LED Task Lamp by Robert Sonneman and Peter Polick. If Mondrian and Rietveld come to mind, you’re not alone- the black, yellow and red finish along with the rectilinear form are spot on De Stijl, and if you’re not familiar with those names, do yourself a favor and follow the links (it’s difficult to fully appreciate modern design without knowing its roots). Back to the lamp- it uses Flat Panel LED technology to produce an even and glare-free light. There’s also touchless dimming control thanks to an optical sensor. Also available in black, white, and aluminum finish if the red/yellow/black doesn’t suit your taste.

WAKA WAKA’s Shaped Bookends

Fun bookends? Yes, please. WAKA WAKA’s Shin Okuda turns ordinary plywood into these colorful bookends. They’re sold in sets of two, in mismatched colors, mind you, so tell your books to stand up straight for their semi-crazy and exciting new friends. You DIYers might feel an itch to replicate these with your own shapes and colors, and, if so, go for it, as you’ll only need some plywood, glue, paint, and some sort of metal bookend to sandwich between the wood (right?).

Stand Up! Stand

It might be a stretch to call this computer/iPad/book stand ‘beautiful’, but you certainly can’t dispute that it’s interesting. A durable soft-coating won’t leave marks on surfaces and its substantial weight will keep the heaviest of cookbooks (or laptops?) secure for your hands-free viewing.

onefortythree Wall Lamps

Bear with me here as I calm myself down from a conniption fit. I’m frantically trying to figure out where in my home I need an extra (and rather large) swing arm lamp after perusing the awfully affordable wall lights from onefortythree. (Have we posted these lamps before? Who cares?) You think I’m over exaggerating, and I am ever so slightly, but just take a look at the prices- $95, $145, $275- and each light is remarkably lovely. You can’t go wrong with those prices or any of the lamps… but, if you do, just let me know and I’ll be happy to take it/them off your hands.

Windowfarms

Short on space but still want to grow your own greens? Not a problem. A Windowfarm utilizes vertical window space for year-round growing. A hydroponic system allows maximum yield; nutrient-spiked water is pumped from a reservoir down through each bottle to bathe the roots of the plants, giving them adequate food and water on a set schedule. You can order a system directly from Windowfarms, or if you’d prefer, simply build your own by gathering parts and recycled materials yourself (note: this will take a fair bit of effort/time).
