Most cooks leave mortar and pestles out on the countertop to avoid lugging them in and out of cabinets, and seeing as they’re out for everyone to see, they might as well be nice to look at. Marble, as some of you might know, is an excellent material for a mortar and pestle as it does not absorb odors from foods and provides a perfect grinding surface. Each varies slightly.

Remember us mentioning the Scanwood office supplies? Scanwood does quite a few wood tabletop and kitchen accessories as well, thankfully with the same pared down aesthetic. Just how fun are these handmade boxes from Danish company nunabee? They would hold all manner of knickknacks, office supplies, accessories, etc., and cheer you up while doing so. You’ve no excuse for bare bulbs, especially after being reminded that Droog has this shade. Hmm, here’s something different in the world of bookends. Instead of two separate stand-alone ends, this book binder has an elastic band to hold the books together. The flexibility of the band allows you to remove or add books as you like without them tumbling over and also makes it possible for the stack to be freestanding wherever you wish.

Don’t go thinking this tablecloth is just for kids- it would be just as fun at a dinner party or outdoor cookout. After you scribble and scrawl your masterpiece or menu and your guests/family have had their fill of fabric markers, throw the tablecloth into the washer and you’ll soon have a blank canvas for your next event.

Who is this little guy and where did he come from? The Tokyo lamp is from Misewell, and, as said earlier, Misewell can do no wrong when it comes to furniture and accessories. Little lamps are great fits for smaller tables, and as you can see from the picture below, it would complement the Grain Desk quite nicely. The shade pivots and the neck can be adjusted to give the right stance.

Spending too much time searching for a particular book (or cd, if you still have them)? Alphabetize them first, then consider adding these organizers from Droog. Cross out the appropriate letter or number with a marker, then fold the paper to create a corner stand. See video from Droog below.

This little lamp takes its inspiration from the sea- think lighthouse beacons and buoys. At 8.5″ high and 7.5″ in diameter, it’s small enough to fit on a desk or large side table without taking up a lot of visual space, especially as there’s no traditional cloth lampshade. The base is made of reclaimed American red and white oak beams and the shade is thick, tinted grey glass.
