Brass T from Allied Maker

Nowadays there are more lighting options than ever- you don’t have to buy from the big box stores, as there are many designers/makers doing their own selection of ceiling pendants and lamps. This Brass T fixture from Allied Maker is just about as simple as you can get, and was inspired by 19th century gas lanterns that used to illuminate old saloons. With hints of the same materials as the You Make It: Lindsey Adelman Chandelier (my own version shown here), it has me itching to get out my pliers and electrical tape, but, thankfully, there’s no need because it’s actually pretty affordable, especially considering the custom lengths available.

Vasa Mihich Blades Sculpture

Not every home can stomach super modern sculptures, mostly because they’re not exactly kid-friendly, but also because modern art can be prohibitively expensive for a more modest budget. However, these sleek, colorful acrylic sculptures by Vasa Mihich aren’t going to make you choke when you hear the price- or maybe they will if you have a very, very modest budget- but for those of us that wouldn’t mind investing in such splendor for under the $1G mark, it looks like a safe bet. There are also smaller, less expensive pieces on Vasa Mihich’s site. Hmm, what was that? Why, yes, my birthday is coming up, how kind of you to remember.

OGOBILD Kit

If one of these kits were within my arms’ reach, I’d be building my own geodesic dome, no matter if there were kids around or not. It looks fun, doesn’t it? A bunch of 24-inch polypropylene tubes plus 12 SEBS (non-toxic, latex-free material) OgoBild balls gives you the ingredients to construct large, lightweight structures. Throw a sheet over it and you have a fort. Like I said before, fun, right? Now on sale at MCA Shop, but you can also purchase directly from OGOStore.

Make Your Own – Angle Lamp

If you like the look of this Angle Lamp, you’re in luck- you can make it yourself! The Make Your Own Angle Lamp comes as a kit, available in different color schemes. Pick the color you want for the shade, the cord, and base, and then assemble it all yourself. And, not to worry, it comes with everything you need with very clear instructions. However, the shop that offers this lamp is in New Zealand, so if you’re located elsewhere, there might be a significant shipping fee (sad face).

Antique Mirror Coat Hooks

A set of special hooks might just encourage you to hang your coat where it belongs, especially when there’s some “special optical effects” involved, as with these Antique Mirror Coat Hooks by Garth Roberts. A combination of unfinished oak and specially treated mirror cladding make for a pretty set of four hooks, either in Galaxy Blue, Smoke, Antique Silver, or Gold.

Champagne Sabre

We could play the ‘what is it’ game, but let’s just skip straight to the item at hand. It’s a Champagne Sabre, a blade intended to separate the collar and cork from the champagne bottle at its weakest spot above the neck. Now, you’ll notice I mentioned it’s a blade, albeit a curved, blunt blade; does this strike a little fear into anyone else? I’m sure it’s dramatic to slice off the neck of a bottle, but I’m not sure I’d want anyone attempting that particular feat when they’ve already had a few drinks. You know what I mean?

Squeeze In Orange Squeezer

We could play the whole ‘what-is-it’ game, but you probably possess enough deductive reasoning to guess the function of the top part of this set. That’s right, it’s an orange squeezer. Don’t go thinking it’s palm-sized, though, it’s approximately 9″ tall, so it will handle all manner of freakishly large citrus. The dark oak wood juicer sits snugly into the ceramic vase when not in use. Bonus: it’s on sale (reg.$89).

You’re not likely to part with your coffee press, especially if you use it everyday, but just in case the one you have isn’t operating to the best of its abilities, you’ll want to know about the Core Coffee Press. Paperback Notes

Despite having the latest version of the iPhone, do you still write down your grocery or to-do list on a sticky note? I certainly do; sometimes it’s simpler to write a list with a pen on paper, and then cross them off as completed, rather than type them in a notepad or calendar app. If you feel the same, then take a look at these Paperback adhesive notes. They fit perfectly on the back of the iPhone (removable adhesive covers most of their surface), and give a little more room to jot notes than a traditional sticky note. Use one at a time, or attach a small stack for additional lists later on.
