Concertina Wood Trivet

Trivets aren’t necessarily exciting, are they? Charged with the task of protecting our tabletops, they’re meant to be covered up with pots and dishes with little thought to their aesthetic value. However, this walnut trivet does a neat trick of extending from a small area to a rather long length, allowing it to fit your feast from one dish to several. It looks like a stack of chopsticks when closed, which is exactly what I thought it was when I saw it in person.

Designed by Sabine Meyer with SidebySide, a studio partnered with Wendelstein Werkstätten, a workshop for the handicapped.

HOWDY Doormat

There’s nothing like a ‘Howdy‘ or a ‘Sup‘ to casually welcome visitors into your home, and this doormat does that before you even open the door. Just like Reed Wilson’s other doormats (several of which we’ve featured before), these two are made of coir and vinyl with flocked lettering.

Saidoka Charging Dock

Your poor iPhone, it just clatters around on your desk without a real home. Sure, you plug it in to charge, but every time you pick it up to check the time/messages/email/news/calculation, you set it back down with an unfriendly thud. No wonder it wants to join the circus. Save it from that particular fate with this little companion called the Saidoka. Think of it as a sidecar kind of dock, with a comfortable viewing angle to make your screen easy to read while your phone rests safely (and happily) charging.

Theorem Desk Lamp

Inspired by the hypotenuse of a right triangle, this smaller LED lamp will tuck in nicely amongst your other desk items. You do remember what a hypotenuse is, right? The Theorem Desk Lamp from DAMM is made from hand turned solid Ash base, cerused (I had to look up what that meant), with a natural beeswax finish. And, if you’d like an alternate color scheme, here you go: Theorem – Black.

Parent Letter Napkins

“Avoid late hours, pickled salmon, public meetings, crowded crossings, gutters, water-carts
and over-eating.” So says Rudyard Kipling to his youngest daughter, 12-year-old Elsie, in a letter specifying a few rules for her trip to London. You and your family can now have this wisdom at your dinner table, for this letter and others are printed on 100% cotton napkins. Fatherly advice from Charles Dickens, Rudyard Kipling, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Thomas Jefferson are included in the set. You may see the complete text of each letter via the retailer.

Triangle Cutting Board

Don’t ask me why you need a triangle cutting board, because I don’t know. Maybe you don’t like rectangles and only allow equilateral shapes in your vicinity at all times. If that’s the case, you’re a little weird/crazy and we should probably be friends. Each triangle is handcrafted by local San Francisco wood worker Luke Bartels. Three sizes available.

Calendar Stationery Box

Perhaps this might be a little fussy for some of us, but for others, it’s a nice way to display the date while having a hidden compartment for smaller papers/mementos and such. It definitely has a mid century vibe to it (e.g. the designs of Charles and Ray Eames) which means it would fit in nicely with that sort of interior, or even better, place it in a kids’ room to help teach your little one about the calendar year. Hang it on a wall or place on a surface.

Beer Goggles Glass

As a companion piece to the Good Grief Glasses, this pint glass shows the unfortunate decline of our standards as our alcohol intake increases. Funny, right? Keep it in mind for the next birthday gift for your favorite drinking buddy, but be sure to buy two as one alone is just depressing.

Happy Halloween

There are those of us that prefer to only add one or two decorations to our home for Halloween, and then there are those that go all out. For the former, may I suggest a simple garland with scary black bats? It’s a dignified nod to the day without too much trouble.

Lineage Pillows

Looking for a few accent pillows that don’t scream ‘HELLO, LOOK AT ME!’? Join the club. Linear patterns are always a safe bet, and stay in the neutral camp when done with simple color options like red, grey, and black. Say a quiet, dignified ‘hello’ to the Lineage Pillow collection from Cofield. The two patterns play with traditional American quilt block patterns to create a “graphic representation of an arrowhead and the whirling blades of a windmill.”

Night Light Galaxy

Sorry, I can’t help but share certain space imagery applied to ordinary household goods. You’ve seen the Night Light Moon, Earth, but this one has a portion of the Galaxy on its translucent disc, and it’s only $6! Calm down, there’s enough for everyone. For the bathroom, hallway, bedroom, etc. (I swear my home would look like a crazy Cosmologist’s if I didn’t have a little bit of restraint.)
